Album Covers

Have you ever wondered why bands choose certain pictures for their album art.

Well I was on the NME website earlier and I found an interesting feature on their site that explains some album covers.

Here is the link: http://www.nme.com/photos/the-secret-life-of-album-sleeves/168179/1/1

When on the site just click on the album cover to move onto the next one.

Enjoy!!

Is this it? The Strokes new album is on the go!!

I'm excited. Very excited.

The Strokes are currently recording their new album. It is supposed to be a funky version of their previous album 'First Impressions of Earth'.

However, to add to the New York guys known coolness they are recording the album in a different way.

Frontman Julian Casablancas is recording his vocals at a different time from the rest of the band. Casablancas has left the band to record their parts first, he has only heard bits and pieces from the album.

Casablancas released his solo album recently. Absolute genius work. So that is why I'm so excited. I want to hear The Strokes back together doing what they do best...being cool and playing catchy, good, different guitar music.

The Strokes past albums have been amazing. Even though they are an American band they bought excitement to the slow moving British Indie scene. After Blur and Oasis slowly were put into the past The Strokes popped up with songs like 'Last Night' and 'Soma', catchy tunes that proved that guitar music was still cool, still there to mess about with.

I will post more on this upcoming album when I find out more information in the next few weeks.

Doherty has been arrested!

I just logged out after writing my last post on 'Plastic Beach' and went onto Yahoo to check my email. On the home page it stated 'Doherty arrest over drug death'.

Here is the story taken from the Yahoo news page:

I'll keep following the story. At the moment they are just questioning and all that. There will be further inquiries in April.

What's going to happen???

There's More Monkeying Around!!!!

Ok. So the Gorillaz released their new album 'Plastic Beach' a few weeks ago.
Since that time I have been listening to the album over and over and over again. It is really good. have you listened to it? If your answer is no then get on it!!!

If you have listend to their last two albums 'Gorillaz' and 'Demon Days' you will know that the tracks they produce are exciting and very different.
Indeed it can be said that 'Plastic Beach' is equally as fun and unique. A mix of dance feel music, hip hop and orchestral music is all put together to produce this wonderful record.

Other artists have also got involved such as Snoop Dogg, Mick Jones and Kano (and that is just to name a few.)All of them bring an awesome vibe to the Gorillaz already unusual music.

Damon Albarn, a hero of mine, is of course the singer for Gorillaz. As I am a huge huge Blur fan I find that he has not stuck with the brit pop side that we are so used hearing from him. I feel this is a good thing as it shows that he is a good musician who does not need to stick to the same genre to succeed in the music world.

Albarn's vocals are laid back, meaningful and add so so much to the Gorrilaz.

The only downside to the Gorillaz is it is so hard to see them live. For example, they were playing at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth last night. The venue is right near my student house but I couldn't get tickets as you had to be part of their fan base or something like that. Pretty sad times but guess I should get on that website.

Overall it is a a great listen and something that I hope will bring them more well deserved awards.

Little Big Planet

Just a short post here to say how addictive Little Big Planet is.

I find it so hard to work out why running round these strange planets as a sack with legs is so compelling. Especially playing multiplayer.

At the moment I'm watching two of my mates play it while I'm sitting typing this. I find it is also as fun to watch as it is to play.

Wonder if there will ever be a sequel????

Anyway, I've got to go to a band rehearsal so I shall return soon.

Barat's Going Solo

So, Carl Barat has said he's finished work on his solo album. I don't know if it's something to be excited about or not.

After Dirty Pretty Things broke up I didn't think that Carl would carry on to make a solo career. To be honest, the last DPT's album was not the greatest. I felt it lacked something, it wasn't as exciting as 'Waterloo to Anywhere. I mean, there were some good tracks and all but nothing to get into a frenzy about. So what I'm wondering is will Carl work some of his known genius into a solo album?

Pete Doherty's solo album that was released last year was in my opinion... brilliant!!! He managed to separate himself from the Babyshambles sound and created an album that tells many stories. The lyrics and music are well written and with the help of Blur's Graham Coxon on the tracks there is that Brit Pop sound seeping through. A sound that I have missed from the British music scene.

All that Carl has said about the album is that it is heavily piano based. This does sound pretty interesting but I think that Pete and Carl should put their solo work aside and reform The Libertines for one final tour. There has been so much talk about it for so long now. I wish tha
t someone would confirm whether it will happen or not as I am tired of reading articles and stories saying it's off and on and off and on.

Last year a documentary was made by MTV following Pete Doherty for 24 hours. It was really good to watch and I was glad to see Pete and Carl perform an acoustic set together. I don't know whether I want them to carry on playing random sets together or actually reforming and touring. It is rather confusing.

Anyway, Carl has not confirmed a release date for his album so I guess I shall be just waiting for news to come out about it. Come on Carl, give us a good 'un!
